Tüm YazılarıDonald Trump is the 47th President of the United States. Politicians in European countries such as Germany, France, Spain are making statements that a strong stance should be taken unity against the United States.
From Germany, the message “We are Strong”
German Chancellor Olaf Sholz said, “Today President Trump takes office. Congratulations. The US is our closest ally and a good transatlantic relationship is always the goal of our politics” by using the phrase “we are a strong community as the European Union (EU) with 27 members and more than 400 million people”, he is both sending a message of “we are strong” and using polite language so as not to anger Trump…
Fredrich Merz, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the main opposition in Germany, called on Europeans to act with self-confidence and unity against Trump.
French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said that the EU and France will be crushed if they do nothing in the face of Trump’s policies. Bayrou stated that together with Trump, the United States has decided to carry out “dominant policies” by taking control of all research, as well as dollar and industrial policy, and attracting everyone’s investments to the United States. Bayrou said: “If we don’t do something, we will be put under pressure, we will be crushed, we will be ignored. This decision depends on us as French and Europeans because it is impossible to do this without the EU.
The fear of “What will we do if the US withdraws from the Mediterranean”!
French President Emmanuel Macron invited Europe to “wake up” and said that more spending on defence is needed to reduce its dependence on the US. Macron said, “What will we do in Europe if our American ally withdraws warships in the Mediterranean tomorrow? What if they pull their jets from the Atlantic to the Pacific?”. The European states that do not have a serious army are in a state of great fear and anxiety.
Elon Musk’s Nazi salute startled Europe
Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz said that Trump’s closest man Elon Musk stopped using the social media platform X in response to the Nazi salute. She said, “At Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, we witnesses the whole world imitating Musk’s Nazi salute.” The deputy prime minister’s reaction to the US is to get out of X!
Spanish Prime Minister calls for an “uprising”
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez states that everyone should rise up in Europe to defend democracy against the economic, technological, and media power that he claims “surrounds” Trump. Sanchez criticised Trump, who began his term by taking the oath of office, and Elon Musk, who gave him the greatest support during the elections, without naming names. Noting that history shows that technologies alone do not create prosperity, Sanchez said: “They tend to strengthen the status quo, give more power to the powerful and make the rich richer. This threat is quite serious, especially in its current size. The technological caste system in the US, Silicon Valley, is trying to use its absolute power over social debate and control government actions across the West”.
Stating that it is necessary to rebel against these and create alternatives, Sanchez said, “I will explain this in the following words in the shortest possible terms. Democracy is not a euro, nor it is a person or a tweet, it is a vote. Therefore, Europe needs to confront this threat and defend democracy.”
Sanchez complained about the “relaxation of some of the measures, the concentration of financial and political power” in artificial intelligence and social media networks, and stated that “We are concerned that messages affecting millions of people can be broadcast through social networks”. The Spanish Prime Minister noted that the use of artificial intelligence should respect the rights of citizens, comply with the principles of a democratic state, reduce inequality and serve people.
Orban, calling for the seizure of Brussels, goes with fuel to the fire
While some EU member states as France are timid and coward saying “let’s stand up to the US”, Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez is targeting Trump’s entourage, saying “let’s rise up” against them, because he is afraid of directly targeting Trump.
Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, an EU and NATO member, said that Trump’s presidency will lead to the strengthening of the right in Europe. Orban said that due to the liberal policies and approaches of the EU administration, Europe has been removed from China, Russia, and Africa, which he describes as the continent of the future, and economic power has shifted from the West to Asia.
Victor Orban, who praised Trump by saying that even the sun will shine differently in Brussels with Trump’s presidency, stated, “The new president in the US is a large group of patriots in Brussels. Great enthusiasm. The attack may begin. I am launching the second phase of the offensive aimed at capturing Brussels”. In other words, while some members of the EU are considering launching an offensive against the US, some other members are calling for launching an offensive against other EU members together with the US.
With Trump becoming the 47th president, the US withdrew from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Agreement on climate change, of which he was one of the founders and pioneers, and in a sense he declared war on the BRICS, formed by the world’s largest economies. He started making threats to Cuba. Just a week ago, US President Biden removed Cuba from the terrorist list, and in response, the Havana administration would release 533 prisoners with US citizenship. The Cuban government, which considers the US a serious state, released some of the detainees 4 days ago. But the new president Trump has eliminated the decision of the previous president Biden and re-added Cuba to the list of countries that support terrorism. This is a buffoonery that has nothing remotely to do with the seriousness of the statehood.
Declared war on the BRICS
Trump gave the message of working towards imposing 100 percent tariffs on goods from BRICS countries. He said that he is considering imposing a 25 percent customs duty on Canada and Mexico on February 1.
Trump to Europe: “You will buy oil and gas from us” at a high price..
As Trump's threat resonated in Brussels, EU authorities announced that the US role could be increased especially in the supply of liquefied natural gas. Now he said that the only thing the EU can do quickly is to buy more oil and gas from the US. What he means is, “If you want to get along with me, you will do whatever I ask. When I sell oil and gas at a high price, you will not make a sound”.
US President Donald Trump addresses French President Macron on November 2, 2018. He reminded that France was under German occupation in the World War II and punched the arrogant French in the nose by saying, “Before we intervened, (the French) had started learning German in Paris”.
In his unkind letter written in a stupid cowboy style to President Erdoğan in October 2019 to stop the operation against the YPG terrorist organisation in Syria, Trump had talked about “destroying the Turkish economy”. Ankara responded to him by saying, “You can find that letter in the rubbish bin”, and on the same day, US subcontracted soldiers responded by launching a military operation against the YPG. The same Trump has now started saying, “President Erdoğan is my friend and someone I respect.”
Donald Trump has openly declared that he will make Canada, a NATO member and Washington’s closest ally, in the hands of Britain, the 51st state of the US. He explains that he will confiscate Greenland, which is in the hands of EU and NATO member Denmark. There is no click coming out of London. The Copenhagen government is scared.
Today, the European states are tongue-tied. Those who say in a low voice; “let’s rise up”, “let’s rebel”, “let’s defend ourselves” also expect these reactions from others because they cannot show them themselves. Today, European countries are waiting for their turn to be slaughtered like sacrificial sheep in the face of US threats.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan said in a speech on January 8, 2025, “The policies of some small countries in Europe aimed at having a say under the umbrella of the US have not contribution to them. Our interlocutor in this regard is the US. We talk to the US. Not with the countries that are stuck behind it. We do not take the others as interlocutors.” Now we understand better how right Fidan was in this discourse.
The Europeans who say, “Let’s stand up straight, let’s defend, let’s attack”, are dishevelled. Even in the face of a few sentences that Trump has spent without taking action, Europe is already experiencing an air of defeat. Imagine what they would become if the US made a few moves.
